The Vineyard

The vineyard is going through veraison, that is when the grapes start turning purple. Most farmers think it’s going to be an early harvest but our vineyard seems right on schedule. It always depends on what type of August we get.

The Wines

Our estate vineyard was planted in 1999 with Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon on freedom rootstock. Our soil is sandy loam for thirty feet down which gives the vineyard great drainage so we can adjust the amount of water to the vines. We thin the canes in the spring to only grow two canes per spur with an average of 4 tons per acre at harvest.

About Us

What does a Spanish dancer have to do with a winery that has a French name? Absolutely nothing and everything. It was one of the first artworks Dave did about the same time he and Helen started making wine at home.

One of the classic varietals originating from Bordeaux, France.  Petit Verdot enjoys Lodi's long dry growing season which affords this notoriously late ripener the extended hang-time required for it to fully develop its complex array of opulent fruit flavors and spice.  This wine illustrates Petit Verdot's true varietal character while artfully touting a graceful tannic structure.  Fermented in macro-bins and barrel-aged for 18 months in French Oak.

As your glass succumbs to the stain of inky purple, so too will your senses to this rich full-bodied wine. Luscious dark fruit aromas give way to ripe black cherry and blackberry wrapped in silky ribbons of mocha and smoky oak. Beautifully balanced from start to lingering finish, this wine subtly boasts a firm yet graceful tannic structure.
