Supertuscans are a blend of wine that combine the Italian native, Sangiovese, with a French varietal, usually Cabernet Sauvignon. What first began as an attempt to add intensity to the lighter-bodied Tuscan varietal, has since proved highly successful in California, bringing international recognition to the state for the production of this innovative blend. This wine unites the intense fruit flavor and color of our Estate Cabernet and Petite Sirah in a harmonious marriage with the characterful Sangiovese, creating a beautiful balance between the two that beckons the palate for another sultry sip.
100% Grenache blended from two Lodi vineyards, smooth rounded wine with mouthfuls of ripe, red, sweet plum flavors. Aged 12 months in French oak. Don't let the light color fool you, this wine is full of flavor! Lovely aromas of red berries and spice will quickly turn to rich mouthfuls of strawberry and ripe red plum. Hints of white pepper and a dash of bright zesty orange dance with traces of oak on the smooth fruit-driven finish.
Italy's most planted grape, often synonymous with 'fine wine' in Tuscany, Sangiovese eagerly embraces theMediterranean-like climate of the Mokelumne River sub-AVA of Lodi. Hot sunny days ending with cool breezy evenings, combined with a long and dry growing season, fashion these slow to late ripeners to thrive with exuberance. With Sangiovese's relatively thin skin, this wine is lighter in color, yet saturated with rich, fruitdriven flavor, accentuated by its well-balanced structure.

Spain's most popular red varietal, Tempranillo thrives in Lodi's Mediterranean-like climate with warm summer days and cool nights. From the Clements Hills sub-AVA of Lodi, a region characterized by its low rolling hills and rich mixture of loam and clay soils, this wine embodies Tempranillo's full hearty flavor while keeping in touch with its softer delicate side.
A grape of Italian origin, Barbera is best known for its high levels of natural acidity coupled with a propensity to ripen relatively late. These innate varietal characteristics sing in perfect harmony with Lodi's long hot summers by allowing the grapes ample time on the vine. When fully ripened, sugar levels exceed the acids resulting in a perfectly well-balanced wine, eagerly enticing the palate for another sip.
As always, this is a blend of almost all the wines we make. We then add 25% of our Port to the wine and give it just a little more time in oak. Each bottling is slightly different but always with 25% Port.
