Believe it or not, this now little known grape was one of the most grown varietals in Lodi during Prohibition (as the grapes' thick skin meant it could be shipped to home wine-makers nationally). This French varietal was developed from Grenache and Petit Bouschet in the mid 1800's for it's red flesh and ample growth on the vine.
Our 2018 Alicante Bouschet is medium bodied, with nicely balanced acidity, and easy tannins. If you plan to drink this bottle soon, we recommend to aerate or decant to fully bring out the dark berry, spicy pepper, and sweet oak flavors of this wine. The smoky oak and spicy flavors will pair well with BBQ, Carne Asada, or grilled vegetables.
